July 05 Independence Day Fireworks Show - Seattle, WA
Yesterday (7/4) was the U.S. independence day. We watched the fireworks show in the Gas Works Park near Fremont, WA. There were a lot of people there. We arrived there on about 7:00pm, the fireworks started on about 10:00pm. We were in a good spot. If we arrived later, we might not be able to get that great spot. The sky was very clear yesterday, which was pretty nice. While we were waiting, we ate snacks, enjoyed the view, and took pictures.
After several hours, when the sky was dark enough for the fireworks, the show begins. It started with the U.S. national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, everybody stood up. At the same time, a helicopter with a big U.S. flag flied around the Lake Union, which made a great beginning of the show. Then the fireworks began. I didn’t take much pictures, but below shows a few. After the fireworks show, there were a lot of traffic on the way back. I took more than one hour to drive back home. But it was worthwhile. The feeling was really great watching fireworks in such a close distance. Next year I will definitely go again. Nuo Yan May 29 Fall and Winter Quarter Plan, and my careerI know nobody is inerested in this, but I'll still say something about my Fall Quarter plans.
I will take 4 Math classes including topics in statistics, graphics, optimization, etc, and one 5-credit CSE class in the topic of Human Computer Interaction. Compare to the current quarter, I will be a lot busier in Fall Quarter. But I hope I will have fun taking those interesting classes. Also, I plan to take the Software Product Management certificate program starting from Fall quarter.
Winter quarter will be my last quarter. I will be taking an even harder graphics class and that's all I need. But since I have to take 12 credits to maintain full time status (as an international student), I think I will either take some CSE classes that I'm interested in, or take some extremely easy classes.
After graduating from the University, I will continue my career in the software industry. Many of you may know that I worked before college and within college in the software industry, though I've been done different things in different roles, it makes sense to continue in the same industry. Possible fields I may work in inlcude Software Development, Program Management, Content Publishing, or User Experience Design. I'm passionate in all of these fields so I'm not sure which one/ones I will be working on for the next several years. It also depends on the opportunities. I will work with related people about this, and when I have a confirmed decision, I will post it here.
Nuo May 22 Everything is going to be fine Actually, no matter how bad the situation is, there will be ways to make it all right. Just face it, again, face it. Everything is going to be fine. Nuo Yan May 14 22nd BirthdayToday I had my 22nd birthday. First I want to appreciate all the people who sent me birthday wishes on Facebook, Xiaonei, Windows Live Messenger, and by email and SMS. I got them. Thank you! Today is a normal day. I got up on 7:00 to drive to school for my 8:30 Japanese class. But it was raining in the morning. There was a lot of traffic on the free way. I have two classes today. After my last class, Winndy (Jin) came. We went to the shops around our school to spend the spare time. And then went to pick up two of my friends to have dinner together. The restaurant we went to is called Palisade. It's a fine food restaurant. It's relatively expensive, but eventually provides excellent food. During dinner we had a great conversation about everything. :-D. It was a great dinner, and a great opportunity to get together with them. That's basically my day. I hope I can have such a nice birthday again next year! Nuo May 12 Xiaonei and Facebook - Huge Differences but Who Cares?I wrote a comment about the competition between Xiaonei and Facebook. It can be found in my technical blog at the following URL: Nuo Yan April 23 Hoping to have a new start point...and yes I can.Haven't been updating this for a long time.
April 04 A Happy QuarterSpring quarter is a happy quarter for me! All the classes I'm taking are very interesting, including web design (which counts to the University's Writing requirement), Software User Assistance (which is about content publishing), Continuous Modeling (which focuses on various real life topics, including modeling the internet and social networking), and Japanese. This will be a great quarter. The only down side is that I need to buy expensive software (i.e. MadCap Flare) for some of the classes. I can't work in the lab for all of the time. I called the software company today to query student discount information, but even with discounts, I still needs to spend more than 500 dollars for it. Nuo March 14 Pi (π) day
As a computational mathematics major, this is the first time I celebrate this so-called π day. Today is March 14 (3.14), and that's why it's called π day. Since π is closely related to circles, I will celebrate it by eating as many circle foods as I can today. To inspire the spirit of Mathematics, I'll also do my Math project tonight, rather than relax. Have a nice π day for all of you! Nuo March 05 Infinite LoopAdvisor suggests me to contact professor to seek overload for the math class, while professor suggests me to contact advisor. state = advisor; for(;;) {
}
So the only option I have is still to wait for someone to drop, this is sort of a zero-sum competition, for class registration. Nuo
